Tasting notes: Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière opens in the glass with scents of pear, gunflint, musk melon, wheat toast, wet stones and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, ample but controlled, its concentrated core of fruit is underpinned by lively acids and elegantly chalky structure.

Reviews

John Gilman’s View From the cellar Sept/Oct 2011: “This is a very dynamic domaine, on the top of its game right now, and there are a great many St Aubin 1er crus in the cellar here that are at least as stunning as well known 1er cru bottlings from Chassagne, Puligny, and Meursault, and the value that these wines currently offer make them amongst the most exciting white Burgundies to be found on the Cote.”. “The Domaine Lamy wines were amongst the most consistently superb that I have tasted from any estate of this vintage and clearly must be ranked up at the very pinnacle of 2009 white Burgundies.”

Antonio Galloni of Parker’s Wine Advocate, Sept 2011: “This is a fabulous set of wines from Olivier Lamy. From top to bottom, I can’t think of a single wine I wouldn’t be thrilled to drink. Simply put, I can’t recommend these wines highly enough.”. Criots-Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2009 : 96-98/100 - Saint Aubin 1er Cru Derriére Chez Edouard Cuvée Haute Densitée 2010 : 96/100

burgundy-report.com: “I think you could easily be persuaded that this is a very good Chevalier!” Review by Neal Martin eRobertParker.com # , #210 (Dec 2013) Saint Aubin 1er cru Clos de la chateniére 2012: 91-93 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les chaumées 2012 : 91-93 Puligny Montrachet Les Tremblots Haute densité 2012 : 91-93 Santenay Clos des Gravières rouge 2012 : 90-92.

The wine advocate William Kelley 2017 Domaine Hubert & Olivier Lamy - Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière Rating: (91 - 93): “Notes of light reduction frame aromas of crisp green apple, dried white flowers and citrus oil, introducing the 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chatenière, a medium to full-bodied, satiny textured wine with a tangy line of acidity and a pure, searingly mineral finish. Lamy adds the fruit from his young vines in this parcel to his Bourgogne, so this is effectively an old-vine cuvée.”

Jancis Robinson Saint Aubin, Clos de la Chatenière, 1er cru, White 2019 Cask sample. More backward aromatically than the Frionnes. Lots of extract here. Rather Riesling-like in construction (high praise!). Absolutely no hurry to drink this lemon-flavoured, dense wine.
