Background: A family-owned boutique winery producing premium Barossa Valley wines. Ben Glaetzer makes unique, elegant wines which are treated as classics. Ben has previously won the Qantas Young Winemaker of the Year and in 2005, he was inducted as the youngest ever member of the Barons of the Barossa, a special Wine Fraternity of industry personalities. Wallace is an ancestral name of Colin's wife, Judith, whose family hail from the old market town of Cupar in Fife, Scotland. Judith's Celtic ancestry is reflected in the three elements of the Wallace symbol - the Celtic cross, thistle and the Celtic knot pattern.

Tasting notes: Bright red purple in colour. Grenache once again provides an intense strawberry lift with touches of cherry, minerals and spice. The Shiraz component provides structure to the wine and tightens the confectionary notes of the Grenache. Overall a pure, vibrant blend displaying freshness and animation.

The Grenache lends it all the raspberry jubes and spice, while the Shiraz gives it plumpness and presence. Really delicious, glossy, silky fruit is supported by a river of the same flowing tannins. Epic value for money. This is fresher, finer and more alive than the 2020 offering. Lovely stuff! Drink Date 2023 – 2030”

Robert Parker 2022 Wine Advocate Review Erin Larkin - 91 Points: Glaetzer Wallace 2020: “I’m a purist and prefer either Shiraz or Grenache – not blended. However, there is no doubt that together the two varieties make for light hearted pleasure. And that is the case here with the 2020 Wallace Shiraz Grenache. There’s a blue, boysenberry character here, juicy, raspberry, black tea and peppercorns. Delicious. Drink Date 2022 – 2032”

Grape variety: Syrah & Grenache
Background: The Jaboulet family started working the land in the Rhone region in 1834. The generations continued to succeed one another until Maison Paul Jaboulet Aine was acquired by the owners of Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux, the Frey family, in 2006. Although lauded for wines like Crozes Hermitage Domaine de Thalabert and the famous Hermitage La Chapelle, winemaker Caroline Frey has been receiving excellent reviews for her wines from the Southern Rhone region. From a robust Vacqueyras, to Chateauneuf du Pape Les Cedres and the Secret de Famille Cotes de Rhone wines, Paul Jaboulet Aine offers fantastic quality from these much loved regions. This is the most famous appellation of the southern Rhône and also one of the best-known in France and abroad.

Tasting notes: Deep ruby red colour with very thick legs. The bouquet offers complex and intense notes of macerated red berries, blended with sweet spices and a final hint of garrigue (Mediterranean vegetation). Powerful and warm attack in the mouth, with a spicy and hot finish.

Grape variety:Grenache, Shiraz & Mataro

Background: Langmeil’s history dates back to 1842 and the winery now draws on Barossa’s cultural beginnings and combines it with world-class winemaking. Its flagship, Freedom Shiraz, comes from what is believed to be the oldest Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1843. Old Barossan vines are a trademark of the winery, as are Chief Winemaker, Paul Lindner’s minimal intervention techniques.

Tasting notes: The bright and juicy fruit coats the palate and is well balanced with peppery, sweet spice. Medium bodied in structure with good complexity and lovely silky tannins which flow through to the fruity, spicy finish.

Vinous - Josh Raynolds December 2021 - 90 Points: “Bright, violet colour. Displays spice-tinged black raspberry and boysenberry aromas and a hint of smokiness. Smooth and open-knit, showing good depth as well as energy to its sappy red and blue fruit flavours. Easy-going tannins frame a persistent finish that echoes the spice and smoke notes.”

Grape Variety: Grenache & Syrah

Winemaking Process: Total destemming. 48-hour cold pre-fermentation maceration. Alcoholic fermentation at 26°C. Gentle extraction through pumping over and punching down the cap operations. 3 weeks maceration. 12 months ageing in concrete tanks.

Tasting Notes: Bright deep ruby hue. Fruity and spiced bouquet with notes of blackcurrant and plums. Initially fresh and full, supple and fruity with dominant notes of small black fruit and liquorice. A long and pleasant finish.

Grape variety: 70% Grenache & 30% Syrah

Tasting notes: A delicate infusion of red fruits from the Cucugnan Mountains. The dress is light ruby, nose clean and frank, red fruits, wild strawberries. The fine and elegant structure.

Region: France, Southern Rhone
Grape variety: Grenache & Syrah
Background: This wine was created in 1952 by Charles Brotte with the co-operation of local provençale glass and ceramic craftsmen. The unique bottle shape represents the gnarled and twisted vines typical of the region due to their struggle of growing against the Mistral wind. The bottle is exclusive as they are the only winery permitted to use this shape. The Fiole du Pape is the bestselling Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the world.

Winemaking process: Hand-harvested with berry selection, de-stemming and crushing before being put into vats. Each variety is vinified separately. A 20-day maceration period, alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in concrete vats. Blending of dry wines and traditional maturation in traditional 100-year-old oak vats, for 1 to 5 years. A rigorous selection takes place before final blending of reserve wines of different vintages to obtain a Châteauneuf-du-Pape of consistent style and maturity. Bottling takes place only once these high standards have been reached.

Tasting notes: Deep and bright ruby. Fruity and spiced. Reminiscent of ripe berries, morello cherry, warm spices (cinnamon, clove, nutmeg), truffles and cedar. Elegant and well balanced, fleshy and powerful, with long lasting aromas. A pleasure to savour.
